Taylor Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ Becomes First Album in Spotify History to Cross 300 Million Streams in a Single Day.
On Friday, April 19, the day of its release, The Tortured Poets Department was the first album in Spotify history to have over 300 million streams in a single day. Taylor Swift’s 11th studio album became the most-streamed album in a single day so far this year less than 12 hours after its release, but it only continued smashing records throughout the day, crossing listener count threshold after listener count threshold.
The album’s debut single, “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone, for which a music video was released that same day, became the most-streamed song in a single day in Spotify history.
In addition to fans capturing the event on social media, Spotify’s own socials documented the event, and the album’s countdown page was updated to reflect the new clues. As a result, the countdown page, featuring lyrics and videos from Taylor herself, became the most pre-saved album countdown page in Spotify history.
Naturally, Taylor Swift is no stranger to breaking records, least of all on Spotify. Her tenth studio album, Midnights, became the platform’s most-streamed album in a single day upon its release on October 21, 2022. She also broke the record at the time for the most-streamed artist in a single day and went on to become Spotify’s most-streamed artist of 2023 with over 26.1 billion global streams.
