Postgame Handshake Between Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes Draws Attention
For the third straight season, the No. 1 seed Kansas City Chiefs are headed back to the Super Bowl after defeating the No. 2 seed Buffalo Bills 32-29 in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday night. In a back-and-forth showdown, Kansas City made the biggest plays in the fourth quarter to seal the win. With the victory, Patrick Mahomes became the first quarterback in NFL history to win four consecutive playoff games against the same opposing QB, continuing his postseason dominance over Josh Allen and the Bills. However, despite another playoff loss to Mahomes, Allen, who had the best statistical season of his career, left it all on the field. His postgame interaction with Mahomes, who is also a good friend of his, caught attention as the two competed till the final seconds.
Buffalo had several chances to extend their lead and put themselves in a position to win, but they couldn’t capitalize and failed to put Mahomes away. Josh Allen finished the game completing 22 of 34 passes for 237 yards, two touchdowns, and added 11 carries for 39 rushing yards. Patrick Mahomes, on the other hand, completed 18 of 26 passes for 245 yards, one touchdown, and rushed an impressive 11 times for 43 yards and two rushing touchdowns. While Allen and the Bills have a strong regular-season record against Kansas City, holding a 4-1 advantage, they remain winless in four postseason matchups. Kansas City will now head to New Orleans for a rematch of Super Bowl LVII, where they’ll face the Philadelphia Eagles on Feb. 9 and look to make history and capture their third straight Lombardi Trophy.
