Keith Urban Says Miley Cyrus Sounds Like an ‘Ashtray’ in Unusual Compliment: ‘I Love That Voice’
Urban revealed he’s a fan of Cyrus’ voice in a radio interview in Sydney, Australia
Keith Urban is sharing his thoughts on Miley Cyrus’ singing.
Speaking in a recent episode of Nova 96.9’s Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie in Sydney, Australia the singer-songwriter, 56, revealed that he has “always loved Miley” but added a very unusual compliment.
“I love that voice, man, that voice,” said Urban. “She sounds like an ashtray. And I mean that as a compliment. She sounds like the carpet at the RSL!”
Urban’s comments come after he sang a rendition of her song “Flowers” on the show. He followed them up by also questioning the authenticity of some other country artists currently making their name in Nashville.
“It’s a funny thing because you still need the support of the system in Nashville and if you go about it the right way, like Post did, you’ll see the love,” Urban said.
Urban’s comments about Cyrus, 31, come after he shared his thoughts on Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande to PEOPLE.
Speaking in April after announcing his latest Las Vegas residency run, the “Blue Ain’t Your Color” artist revealed his love for the stars.
“I mean, God, Taylor’s songwriting, it’s so extraordinary. There’s really no adjectives for it,” Urban said at the time. “She’s such a great, great writer. So this new album is just more proof of that in really great ways,” he added in reference to her The Tortured Poets Department album.
Urban also revealed that he’s a fan of Grande’s March 2024 song “We Can’t Be Friends.”
“I don’t know what is going on with that song, but I cannot stop playing it. It’s like audible heroin. Literally, I have to have another hit,” he said. “I play that thing over and over and over.”
Not only did the guitarist watch Grande perform “We Can’t Be Friends” at the Met Gala with his wife Nicole Kidman on May 6, he also performed a cover of the song during a concert, shared in an Instagram video on May 14.
