Just In : Prince Harry was “Shocked” at Queen Elizabeth supportive gesture to Meghan Markle
In a revealing moment, Prince Harry shared that his late grandmother, the Queen, reached out to Meghan Markle during a challenging personal time. The monarch called Meghan while the couple was having tea with Harry’s father, King Charles. Harry recounted the surprising moment in his memoir Spare, writing:
“We all looked stunned. Meg tentatively reached for the phone. It seemed Granny was calling to talk about Meg’s father.” This gesture came in response to a letter Meghan had written to the Queen, seeking advice and assistance with her father. Meghan expressed her struggle with the press constantly interviewing her father and enticing him to make hurtful remarks. The Queen’s suggestion was for Meghan to disregard the press, visit her father, and try to reason with him.
Meghan explained the challenges of visiting her father, who lived in a Mexican border town, surrounded by press and potential safety concerns. The Queen acknowledged these difficulties and proposed an alternative: writing her father a letter.
King Charles agreed, deeming it a “splendid idea.” This exchange sheds light on Meghan’s attempt to reconcile with her father, who she had a close relationship with while growing up but hadn’t seen since before her wedding to Prince Harry – an event he did not attend.
