Meghan Markle’s acting days are over, and here’s why…
T’s curtains for Meghan Markle’s acting career, despite her continuing deals with major streaming services like Netflix, says royal expert Simon Vigar. Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Show,Channel 5’s royal correspondent dished out some real talk about the Duchess of Sussex’s potential return to the silver screen.
Once a beloved character on the legal drama Suits, Meghan’s last appearance as paralegal Rachel Zane aired just before she married into British royalty in May 2018. Since becoming the Duchess, her acting pursuits have taken a back seat, leading Vigar to speculate that we’re unlikely to see Meghan the actress make a comeback. “You can never see her as a character; now you’re gonna see Meghan, the Duchess. How can you believe she’s anybody else?” Vigar commented to The Sun’s Matt Wilkinson.
Vigar also highlighted the high expectations from Netflix, which inked a creative partnership with Archewell Productions, the company she runs with Prince Harry. “Netflix is going to want their pound of flesh,” he remarked, suggesting that while the Duchess’s media presence may grow, her acting days are likely behind her.
Despite stepping away from acting, Meghan hasn’t shied away from the limelight. She’s pivoting to producing with a new Netflix series set to explore the “joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining, and friendship,” aimed at showcasing a different facet of her life. Moreover, another project will delve into the couple’s passion for professional polo.
Aside from their Netflix commitments, the Sussexes made waves with their 2022 documentary Harry and Meghan, which painted a tumultuous picture of royal life and stirred substantial media buzz.
