Rumors are swirling around Taylor Swift’s newest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” with fans speculating that several tracks may be inspired by her brief relationship with Matty Healy, the frontman of The 1975. According to family members close to Healy have responded to the fan theories, providing a glimpse into the private reactions surrounding the album’s release.
Debbie Dedes, the aunt of Matty Healy, shared her thoughts with The Daily Mail. “He will not be surprised by the song. Him and her know what went on,” Dedes stated. She further commented on Swift’s well-known penchant for drawing inspiration from her personal life for her music. “She writes about all her relationships, doesn’t she? I don’t think it will come as a shock to him at all. He’s very happy in his new relationship so I’m sure he will be focusing on that,” she added.
Songs like “The Tortured Poets Department,” “Guilty as Sin?,” and “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” are among those fans believe detail Swift’s time with Healy. Particularly poignant lyrics from “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” seem to reference personal moments and challenges within their relationship: “Was any of it true? / Gazing at me starry-eyed / In your Jehovah’s Witness suit / Who the f— was that guy?,” sings Swift.
The references to Healy are not subtle
Healy, known for his signature black suit and his frustration with public speculation about his height, briefly dated Swift from May to June 2023. The relationship drew additional scrutiny and backlash following Healy’s controversial remarks on various topics, which resurfaced during their time together.
An insider reportedly told Entertainment Tonight, “They are both extremely busy and realized they’re not really compatible with each other.” Following their split, Swift has been linked with NFL star Travis Kelce, while Healy has started seeing model and musician Gabbriette Bechtel.
